Living room trapeze
Posted on 17:26 by gaurav kumar

My friend Sophie (of the children's brand Oeuf) might be the coolest mom ever, since she hung a trapeze in her Brooklyn living room. Her kids like to "swing really high and scare people," she says. "They love to triple-dog-dare our poor guests to do knee hangs." I interviewed her for Martha Stewart Living, and you can read the full interview here, if you'd like.P.S. Alex and I took a trapeze class and bombed:)

Which color should we paint our bathroom?
Posted on 10:41 by gaurav kumar

If you come over to our apartment, you might notice me wince if you ask where the bathroom is. Our bathroom has always been an eyesore. The tile is chipping, nothing matches, and the walls are a drab white. We want to fix it up, but since we'd like to move to Brooklyn next spring, we don't want to do anything too major. So, we've decided to give it a quick makeover with...a coat of paint!Valspar Paint was sweet enough to offer the paint (thank you, Valspar!), so now the question is: Which color should we choose? Valspar offers a "Love Your Color" Guarantee, where if you don't love the first paint color you choose, they'll let you pick out a second color for free, so we feel emboldened when it comes to picking richer colors. I'm usually pretty bad at picking out paint (it's so hard to envision on the walls!), but here are our three favorites, inspired by the rooms above...
Do you like any of these? Or would you pick a totally different color? Please weigh in below...we'll share the before-and-after photos next week. (You'll die when you see the before:)P.S. My inspiration board.

House tour: Living room
Posted on 08:55 by gaurav kumar

My friend Julia Leach—the genius behind the clothing line Chance—has the most beautiful living room, filled with books, paintings and even a secret movie wall! My favorite touch was the Monopoly pieces on her bookcase. I interviewed her for Martha Stewart Living, and you can see the full post here, if you'd like. Thanks, Julia!

Motherhood Mondays: Nursery in a closet
Posted on 12:50 by gaurav kumar
Our friends Ashley and Aron live in a 500-square-foot studio apartment in the East Village. When they found out they were expecting a baby boy, they rolled up their sleeves and transformed their walk-in closet into a six-square-foot nursery...
I interviewed Ashley on Martha Stewart Living's new blog, if you'd like to hear how she once army-crawled past his crib to get to the bathroom. And isn't the wallpaper a great touch?
P.S. More nursery inspiration...

How beautiful is this driveway? It's actually doable: It's made of glowstones mixed with gravel. Imagine driving home after a long day at work--awesome.(Via Pinterest)

Rosemary in jam jars
Posted on 06:30 by gaurav kumar
We don't have a backyard, but I love the idea of a home that smells like greenery. How cool would it be to place jars around the house filled with rosemary? The lovely strong scent would make you feel like you were walking through a garden. (Afterward you could put the rosemary in roast chicken or potatoes.)P.S. How to buy houseplants, and four amazing backyards.

Backyards: Do you have one?
Posted on 06:40 by gaurav kumar

Our teeny NYC apartment doesn't have outdoor space (except a rusty fire escape), but Alex and I often daydream about having a backyard. These garden photos are so inspiring. Can you imagine having a glass of wine and playing Scrabble out there in the evenings?Plus, a Manhattan penthouse garden below...
